Hunger - International Performance Festival

From 7. to 21. May, 2011, the International Performance Art Festival will take place in Berlin for the fifth time. The Festival is a unique art festival, with workshops, labs and performances, is among the most important platforms for performance art.

Over 100 Berlin and international artists will present themselves in a performance marathon. During the kick-off on May 14 and 15, it will be possible to see what constitutes performance art: spontaneous creativity, confrontation, experiments, in short: artists in real-time.

What takes place can then serve as inspiration for all interested individuals. Performance labs with the artists will give participants the opportunity to pursue their own creative impulses and to present the results to the public in the finale on May 20 and 21. All info about artists>

Why hunger?
Hunger is stimulus, greed, desire. Hunger makes people inventive. How is the hunger for movement, for expression transposed in the creative process? Is it necessary to cultivate hunger in a sated society? How will it influence us?

Poul R. Weile & Henrik Pryds Beck (Dänemark/ Berlin) Mit „Out of focus“ entsteht in einem langsamen Prozess ein
lebendiges Bild.

NULLHUNDERTNULLUNDNULLZIG

"I will go to the light " performance does not mean something, anymore .We just have to do it
SP 38 (Frankreich/Berlin)

director: Al Paldrok
info@openspace32.de

Around the name NON GRATA there have been different hushes and shushes for a long time. Already from the point of view of death of conventionalization of art it has embodied the horrible and unwanted disembodiment of human person, from which the meaninglessness of nowadays art, is pouring out. For those, whose world of arts starts from the point, where the art world ends, NONGRATA has been a liberator, the orphic gap in the seemingly unalterable course, which however betrays us, it is a cure from incest. The main point of the group is ethical - it is the image of primitivism, impersonality and experimental creativity. The performances of the group take place according to the logic of avoiding codes. The presentations are physical texts, whose ways of orthography and reading are kept within limits of real actions by the group members. Aesthetical and provocative challenges are represented in places, where the Art World doesn't work.

NON GRATA exists as a Performance- Group in Estonia since 1998 and became meanwhile internationally one of the most recognized artist collectives in the Baltics. The group has more then 40 members of diverse nationality which interact in their performances anonymous.

NON GRATA performed worldwide sometimes their famous "Ghettomaratons" in bunkers, basements, galleries, museums, Operas, in the wild nature and in the urban space.

The group guides an alternative Art- school: Academia Non Grata, which was from 2001- 2004 official part of the University of Arts in Tallin.
,
Diverse Universe Performance Festival organized anually by NON GRATA since 2005 is a festival which travels it`s ontourage of performance artists from Estonia to all over Europe. The Festival has become one of the most important Plattforms of Performance- Art in Europe, America and Asia

ART CAR PROJECT

Esspecially for the "Hunger" Performance Festival Steve Vanoni, visual artist and performer, offers the collective ART CAR PROJECT. In Colaboration with other Artists out of an old Automobile becomes a navigable Piece of Art.

What do we need?
A CAR..............
tools: a welder such as a plasma cutter or any kind of welding device is useful.... torch oxy acetylene... we can use clear silicone to glue fix and otherwise adhere objects onto the outside and inside of the vehicle......
we need to gather found objects to glue to the vehicle.... from thriftstores and found objects.... found.....????????????
and what people want to bring to the vehicle as an offering........
Paint is goood.... or great...... wire can also be useful........
and an open imagination.......... and a great team of talented and energetic people
who can make something wonderful, magic and fun.......
these are all helpful in creating a goood or great artcar.............

after this it is ofcourse important to take care of the necessary logisitical details.........
is vehicle registered, insured, needed permits for driving ??????
or will it be stored somewhere to become more of a sculpture and taken out
on special occassions.....?

" I began creating art when I was 3 years old and that is the main reason that I continue to create artwork today. I liked the way creating made me feel; I could forget about myself and simply be there; here, free to work and follow the process to wherever it took me: in the realm of the wonder and the unknown. I have been exhibiting my artworks at galleries for over 30 years. I love painting and consider myself to be one of the great living painters on the planet today; NO _*_*_*_!!!… and I laugh at myself too: as much as possible!!!. You can see some of my paintings and sculpture on this website: http://www.artslant.com/global/artists/show/46697-steve-vanoni .
For the last 7 years I have focused primarily on creating Performance Art both locally and Internationally at Festivals, galleries, Museums, Artist Communities, venues and some street performance in New York City, London, Paris, Seoul, Barcelona, Berlin, Toulouse, San Francisco, Miami, Nowon, Ystad, Malmo, Helsinki, Tampere, Pori, Tallinn, Oakland, the Black Rock Desert, Brooklyn, Cologne, Basel, Sabadell, Brighton, Alytus, Marseilles, Parnu, Vaasa, Riga, San Lys, Sacramento, Davis, Stockton and a few other lesser known cities. Through my collaborations with various Performance Artist Groups I have been fortunate to establish many important and invaluable working relationships with a great network of talented artists that spans the globe.
My local performance art group was known as the HORSECOW BOMB BRIGADE. We began creating our unique brand of public performance art in the Spring of 2004... We performed within the context of Gallery spaces and non-traditional art spaces alike; such as the Black Rock desert in Nevada and some vigilante street actions, attempting to "take the art to the people"..... The HORSECOW BOMBERS was Formed by a small group of like-minded artists, tech heads and pranksters who enjoyed working together on projects that incorporated a piece of technology known as a "Pulse Jet" as a key element into our actions, that were explosive and could be rather conceptually challenging for the viewer...... We remained open to collaborate with artists from the art community and worked with visiting International Performance Artists. Our interactive performance artworks were based in audience participation and were fun to become involved in both as a participant and a spectator.

Arianne Foks is a visual and performance artist. Graduated in 2007 from Toulouse Fine Art School, she was resident of the Sichuan Fine Arts Institute in China in 2006, and of the Cité Internationale des Arts de Paris in 2008. She is interested in the presentation of the body as a medium, its relationship to architecture, domestic objects, and its power to engage us, the audience and the performer, in an emotional way through memory or by evocation. Her work questions desire, identity and physical or conceptual displacement. The shift of use of an object creates a shift in her identity.

Her performances are a meeting between body and object, but naturally a meeting with the audience.
Perhaps a love story?
She collaborates with many sound and performance and dance artists from different parts of the world
to enrich her experience and create exchanges In 2010 she presented a serie of performance across
Europe, in Paris, Berlin, Milan, Tallinn, Cardiff...

Travis McCoy Fuller is concerned with the multiplicity of layers within his performance practice. These layers operate on many levels, visual, spatial, emotional, psychological, social, etc.. His performances are an experience of a non-linear cultivation of layers, which then, through subjective decoding, create meaning. He is interested in playing with the boundaries between the performer and the viewer. The notion of control enters his work through the process of soliciting volunteers and delegating them tasks. The content of his actions deal with complex and troubling subject matter while avoiding pathos and rhetoric.

http://vimeo.com/groups/1762/videos/14355305

For a number of years, her work has been centred primarily in solo dance works. However, this work has also acknowledged a wider frame of new performance, performance art, mixed media performance, and Live Art. Many of her performance works have incorporated light as material/media, video, and text.
Her solo dance works are often risky, intensely focused, and are highly distinctive and original. They are rigorously wrought and possess a power and internal energy which is both derived from the quality of their formative process, and from the power and performative awareness and understanding of the performer. As a performer, everything is contained and released in the moment.

In her more recent work, the influence of other art and performance forms have been increasingly foregrounded. Her awareness of dance and its aesthetic and historical contexts is highly developed. Through her involvement in contemporary arts practices internationally, she also has a developed a sense of critical understanding and aesthetics in contemporary practice. This she feels a need to consolidate into a critical practice at present, as a means of advancing future work.
Risa is articulate, intelligent, rigorous, and enquiring. This is well evidenced in her own performance practice, and in her articulation of that practice. She is more than capable of study and research at post graduate level. She would bring intelligence, a sense of open enquiry, rigour and generosity to any research project.

I have known Risa Takita as an artist and performer since 2002, participating in a number of events, exhibitions, and performance festivals in Japan, Germany, Poland, and Hungary. Additionally, I have invited her to perform in two Crossing Time International time-based arts events featuring a range of international artists hosted at Dartington UK in recent years.

A main characteristic of the works of Saskia Edens whether performance, video installations or sculptures is the examination of antagonisms, their inversion, sheer impossibilities and ambivalences. Edens is interested in themes such as time,
transience and transformation and visualizes these processes in a striking and often surprising manner. Her artworks make sounds, time and heat visually perceptible. "I am interested in the elusive and intangible, in all that deprives us of our sight and that defies control. So too in the skeleton of our own body and the continuous metabolic processes of regeneration and destruction, taking place without any conscious intervention."

"Radiosonic Screams"

mit
Nicolas Petitdan, Bass und mixer
Mathieu Sylvestre, Guitarre
Valentina Besegher, VJ

In this piece, we explore the dynamics of time – specifically time under pressure. We superimpose a live action with an audio-visual recording of the same action performed previously. During the performance, through repeated applications of the action, recording and playback, we build up a multi-layered image. With this technique, we demonstrate the cyclical nature of human behavior as well as emphasize even small breaks from the cycle. Time seems to rush as in the repetition, a loss of time is implied.

Routines seem to be an efficient way to make everyday life easier;
however, they quickly lead to disconnection. The spirit gets lost
in the repetition and the individual no longer really experiences the
present moment. Trapped between the opposing forces of a coercion to
repeat and the desire to break free, an tension builds up under the
seemingly stable surface. The location, time, and form of the release
are unpredictable - it is only certain that a sudden change will
occur.

>River’ attempts to vocalize human’s mind with messages of love, pray and bless. Various colors and symbolic objets integrate freely with time and space and guide audiences to the ‚mind‘ of Human, the deep inner world of people, by exchanging secret energy with audiences. It will be an arcane and beautiful travel towards the second universe,
a landscape of human heart. It’s an image performance drama that guides us to the world of esthetic by assimilating a ‘river’ to life. It awakens human’s basic lyricism through expressing love, compassion, joy and equanimity of life with an oriental aspect of the world<

"walking eggs and other stories"
site specific Performance with a person, eggs, noises and various situation

In the act of eating the host is violated and justice defeated temporarily. The plate and what's upon it, through the predatory power of the intestinal apparatus, command attention and unifies the spirit, first hypnotizing it, then slowly swallowing it, then masticating it, then absorbing it. The spiritual part of the being passes like a scum, leaves absolutely no evidence or trace of its passage, vanishes, vanishes even more completely than a point in space after mathematical discourse.

MANNET L. VILLARIBA

mannetsky@yahoo.com

EMMANUEL MANNET L. VILLARIBA Artist CV
As an inter-disciplinary artist, Mannet Villariba finds himself always drawn to a relentless interest in the live performance of visual imagery. This inner self-motivated leaning must have been linked to his toy-deprived childhood life yet with that constant fascination with science-fiction, art and technology. Technology had significantly influenced the content of his visual performances, and true enough, these demands have been met productively by the influx of open source accessibility for artists alike, keeping the programming of new graphics algorithms accessible to those seeking greater creative freedom.

Interactivity mainly focused on sounds and visuals, have been the main thrust of his research as of the moment. Gradually adapting the virtual art space. Banking on unconventional 'open source applications'. This allows for greater control and goes beyond what is available. Allowing for the reformulation of the present medium into unique angles. Not only does it permits to modify but make use of other linked devices as well. Providing full access not only on virtual art space but to the tactile world as well.

His work exploits sound's visual property, its relation between cause and its effect or between regularly correlated events or phenomena with human perception and mathematical knowledge as music, time and space.

Mannet focuses on the visuals and sound interactivity. He relies heavily on what he hear and let this be his guiding tool to influence his actions. In his academic years he was particularly influenced by what he calls the Synaesthesia effect, wherein they interpret what they hear in a painterly manner. The idea that music is linked to visual art goes back to ancient Greece, when Plato first talked of tone and harmony in relation to art. This approach had somewhat made a great impact on him in his formative years in the art department. Evoking sound through sight and creating a painterly equivalent of a symphony that would stimulate not just the eyes but the ears as well.

Since 2005 he has been intensely active in sound art through collaboration, visual performances, new media art events, concerts, and installations, with the use of computer and digital technology to its limitless potentials, harnessing the audio visual modules for real time sound visualization.

The versatile range of his discipline is evident in his receiving the grand prize for the National Commission on the Culture and the Arts' - Websining National Digital Art Competion in 2007.

As an active core member of Tupada Action and Media Art since 2006, Mannet regularly contributes and organizes local and international visual performance event.

A Piece for the Crisis Time

The performance A Piece for the Crisis Time is build of two visual layers: video projection and live action.
The video layer contains video clips of works and statements by performance art classics and precursors, confronted with static video showing the view of the street outside my New York studio window.
The two kinds of video change in turns. The changes in projection are accompanied by simultaneous live action, consisting of moving and carrying small objects like shopping bags, light bulbs, papers and cans, across the stage.
The subject of the performance is my reaction to the surrounding crisis and inertia in the United States. They are confronted with European Union reality in the context of history of the performance art.

Since 1981 has completed number of performances, individual and group shows, installations and multimedia works presented on five continents. Currently lives and works in New York and Krakow.
